Suggestion: Facility to merge HN posts

With the growth of HN, there seems to be, understandably, a corresponding growth in duplicate posts. It would be nice if people with enough points could merge posts - along with their comment threads - together, so that the discussion doesn't get repeated and/or split. I would imagine this working something like this: one post is chosen as the 'winner' and any other duplicate posts URLs get turned into 301 redirects to the winner and - most importantly - all their comment threads get re-based to the winning post, so the discussion is merged.

Ironically, this would be similar to something I do urgently need to write, which is a utility for taking a post that should have been filed as a feature request and moving it there.
