Submit interesting stories. That's probably the easiest way. Karma from comments seems harder to me.
When you comment, try to add value to the discussion.
That often means (but not necessarily, of course) that you shouldn't just write a pithy one-liner, but actually flesh out a train of thought.
Of course, I'm very low-karma myself, so I might be mistaken.
