Why the apathy?

Technology people like to think of themselves as the chosen ones, the ones who get to change the world. I'm all about this. I also understand that forums like HN are for technology topics and everyone tries their best to keep on-topic.

However, I find that this has created a "culture" of keeping far-away of highly-charged geo-political topics and I find this apathy unacceptable.

The fact that hundreds of children are being killed in the middle east today IS your problem. It MUST be addressed by you. Especially if you pretend that you're changing the world, that you are leading humanity... What are YOU doing about this problem? Why this complete apathy on such important topic?
