identity-mapping means fragmentation.

each file is processed by reading the whole thing. Freed memory chucks can only be reused for the same size.

when you make a distribution, you go through 700 files and load them into maybe 6K pieces and fragments stuff.

The good news is -- it is exclusively 64-bit and every single 64-bit machine has 512Meg and up.
