Ask HN: Getting a job in VC

I'm curious how one gets into venture capital without going through the MBA, "I know a guy's sister's nephew's cousin", or "I'm an angel investor already" routes. Doing some research on funds in my metro area none of them list job openings. Any thoughts or suggestions for places to find VC job listings or getting into the industry?
