Ask HN: Quick and dirty way to learn to work with APIs using JSON

I have a couple of APIs that I want to play around with. Does anyone have any good resources where I can learn how to browse data in APIs? I have very minimal coding skills. I just basically want to look at the data and put it into excel spreadsheets and such. Simple things like that.
