Ask HN: What do I need to know to do this?

I want to:

1. collect and store data from an API in a database

2. analyze and do some simple calculations with the data (such as find the maximum value within a range)

3. publish some of the data on a web site

What do I need to learn so I can do this? I don't need to be great at it, I just want to play around and get something working.
