It'll be interesting to see the balance between the free and pro version of Chocolatey.
Agreed. But most of the pro version features are non-free features for us to offer.
Yes, this is an important point. Exactly what will remain free. I trust it will be the good parts of what we have now.
I've been using Chocolatey for a good while now, and it's great! Just updated my install of mysql workbench using "choco update mysql.workbench" - easy!

I think 'apt-get' for windows is a better description than an alternative to Windows Store.

Backed!

10 days to go! Over half way there. Let's do this!
Up to 469 backers! Final push might just get us there!
I have backed the kickstarter. Chocolatey makes MS Windows much better.
This is great, it has saved me a great deal of time at work.
Recently installed Hyper-V Tech Preview, since this a core server product with no gui and I needed to install some tools, i.e. cpu-z, I decided to use Chocolatey to manage/install software.

Step 1. I cut and pasted the install command line for chocolatey and installed it. Step 2. I choco install cpu-z Step 3... there is no step three!

This is a great project and would benefit from all the support we can give it.

Chocolatey makes life on Windows much easier. Support the Kickstarter!
Really hope the kickstarter gets funded. Chocolatey is a marvellous tool. It would be great to see it go to the next level.
Chocolatey is one of the first things I install on any machine...
I recently changed my pc. It took me 2 commands to install 90% of my dailies applications. One for install Chocolatey and the second for "cinst" everything.

I really hope that the kickstarter will succeed and choco become even better than now! :)

I can't upvote this story. What's up with that?
I had that problem as well. I logged in and logged out again, and that seemed to help.
Please, give money to Choco!
I'm pressuring everyone I know to into giving money to the Chocolatey kickstarter! I want it to work! Chocolatey is amazing, there's not much missing for it to be an obvious choice for any command-line user.
Since Windows Store has failed by design (no Windows applications). Chocolatey is the "last best hope" for Windows package management!
