Thalmic Labs Myo Armband. Failed Product

It has a 3 axis accelerometer, 3 axis gyroscope, and 3 axis magnetometer. The special extra it has, in opposition of every other bloody wearable, is it has a 8 channel EMG sensors. Sounds cool, right? Think again.

But... The API is only for Windows and Mac users. What about us Linux users? Is there no API? Sadfully, there is NO corporately pushed API for Linux. So, is there an open source one?

YES! DZHU was the first to write a native driver for Linux, to view and record the raw data! Not only that, but he also leveraged the scipy-learn library to allow creation of new gestures, FAR SURPASSING the current API. There's even a branch, published by jarrelscy that fixes an initialization bug. https://github.com/dzhu/myo-raw https://github.com/jarrelscy/myo-raw

This 3rd party driver and software turns what was a loser dev-kit of yet another accelerometer with hidden magic to something we can all hack and datamine. But, there's always a catch.

Yes, they seem to be serious. The device costs $150. But they want 200$ for the access to raw data!!! And to add insult to injury, Thalmic Labs is looking at making the firmware process sensor data on the device, to keep YOU from the raw data!

It gets worse. I sent them an email regarding raw access. I wanted to see what they would say. Well. I have their response. http://i.imgur.com/TxECSPU.jpg

BTW, that's the response email, requesting $5000 for raw access. Oh, and I have the raw data from my MYO on the screen, recording the EMG data for my raised middle finger.

Last known safe firmware version: 0.8.18.2 https://mega.co.nz/#!ycVkHbDQ!_bGo7yn6T0Io3qd0RrsAw4MyEQkonjElljBHBdorTHk
