ATM went right from being the 'technology of the future' to 'Legacy'. However, many DSL installations still use ATM between the DSL modem/home router and the DSL access multiplexer. Many ATM experts moved on to MPLS, like ATM a technology where virtual paths are set up. The NGN/IMS world is still full of Bellheads, creating a technology that combines the worst of the Internet and the phone network.
