Ask HN: Working in finance

I was wondering what the opinion of the HN community was with working in finance. Are there members here who work in HFT? Front office? Back office?

I am considering a move to NYC and most of the software engineering (c++) opportunities are in finance. I come from a very tech background and generally was biased against working in finance. Are there people who moved from tech to finance? And from finance to tech? Would you recommend working in finance?
