Giving hope via JavaScript

First some background. I live in the Washington DC area and my Sundays involve going to church and helping many of the financial poor in my congregation. Having attended the same church for ten years, many of the same people are still struggling financially.

Living in the USA, we are lucky to have thousands and thousands of jobs we could apply for. Indeed.com shows 105,000 jobs when you search for "SQL". My idea is to have a map of the USA that flashes the number of recent craigslist job posts in real time by city. The intent is NOT to scrap data from craigslist and display it in one place. The intent is to show a visitor that 300+ jobs have been posted near you and one of them might be yours.

There are a lot of hopeless people, a job gives people hope. My question now is what is a good and simple way to create this? Has something like this already been done?
