As an aside: I find it strange how Indian reporting of crimes identifies the suspect as guilty before the trial takes place. Doesn't this affect the accused's right to a fair trial?
When it comes to rape and especially in a city like Delhi, there is no reason to doubt woman's testimony since its something which happens quite frequently. People who doubt her might even get into serious trouble.
Well, this is a problem with their justice system..if you can even call it that.
It's sort of like what's happening with social media in the US: A person is found guilty through public opinion, memes with false information, and opinions based on pure emotion (and no facts) are repeated..and the person's life is destroyed/career is damaged.
Terrible news. Not victim blaming here, I have to say it was incredibly rash of the girl to have gone in a cab at late night which she doesn't completely trust. If you know the circumstances in India, you never never never allow your friends, sisters and mothers to do this. You always advise them to go home in cabs they trust late at night. You keep in constant contact with them late (before and after departing for a destination). I know of people who text the vehicle number in front of the cab driver so that they know they cannot get away if they are thinking of something bad.
