I've been mostly doing web development during the past 5-6 years and want to get back into the Desktop application development (C#, VB .net) Do you guys have any ideas for small projects i can work on that may help your day to day tasks with a desktop app?

Leverage what you know. Build a desktop app in C# that embeds a browser (Like Awesomium, which is Webkit), and runs like a desktop app.
