Ask HN: Twitter’s API hiding tweets?

I noticed that in Tweetbot on iPad, a lot of tweets do not show up in threads.

Same thing on Twitterific for iPhone. And same thing while using another account.

This isn’t new, I bought Tweetbot for iPad in November 2013 and noticed this problem immediately. I’m reinvestigating this again because I recently got an iPhone, and thought about buying Tweetbot for it (still a no-go apparently).

Is this a well-known behavior of the Twitter API?

Could some of you please confirm they don’t see those tweets in third-party clients either?
