Google changes direction with Android Open Source Project (androidandme.com)

Reading this, and seeing how many versions of Android developers are going to have to support (1.5, 1.6, and 2.0) all at once, I wonder what the future of Androids holds for developers and manufacturers that are committing so much to the platform.
