So cool to have a way to support the majority of musicians that just aren't making any money with the current system. With streaming the top 1% of artists get most of the pie...
There was a problem with tip4commit where people could send money to people without first getting their permission and potentially causing them trouble:
Hey afandian,
It's a similar concept, although tip4commit was causing issues with gaming/controller what gets works on, where as Huzza is for tipping songs and musicians that already exist, so we don't see the same problem happening. Happy to chat ping me at justin at huzza.io if you want to chat more.
Thanks! I was talking specifically about causing tax problems. In that other thread there were some very vocal people who seemed to be talking about real problems, so I was curious.
(I'm not a recording musician, but some of my friends are)
That's an interesting point that we haven't encountered at all. I think open source projects aren't always set up for receiving money (and thus causing tax issues) whereas musicians would normally be set up to handle their taxes. In the sense that any additional income would have tax consequences this would too. But if any musician wanted to not receive tips we would gladly remove them from our index.
> Will artists have to sign up before I can tip them?
> No! You can tip any band, artist or individual in the world, no matter whether they are registered on Huzza or not. Once tipped, it's our job to get them signed up and transfer the tip to them.
Taking money in someone else's name without them agreeing to it always leaves a bad taste with me... Especially if they claim "Tips go directly to musicians."
Hey detaro, thanks for the comments. Artists can sign up and claim tips directly, we send the money and that's it! You can always see the status of your tips, and can also claim them back if they haven't been claimed. We want to be as transparent and accountable as possible.

At a first glance at the FAQ this looks similar:

Has this been taken into consideration? Am I wrong at drawing the comparison?

That's a good feature to have, thanks for including it!
