Ask HN Summer job for an outstanding freshman?

I've got an exceptional student in my Digital Logic class. This guy is motivated, curious, intelligent, productive, a quick learner, and an all around nice guy. He's been very helpful tutoring and mentoring his peers in lab sessions (for which I am grateful). He has displayed tremendous potential with both software and hardware. I'm confident that he will be able to make a useful contribution to your team/project. He punches above his weight, but remember his weight is still in the range: college freshman.

Some context: He is currently enrolled in a vocational program at a junior college (Electronics Engineering Technology) I asked him one day recently why he wasn't in engineering school, and he informed me that he is not from a wealthy family and the local-ish junior college is what they can afford. IMO he is easily capable of and deserving of more than we have to offer here. One reason I am reaching out beyond my normal network is that I hope that he can find some competent mentoring above my weight. As much as I would hate to see him go, I would love to see him enrolled in a bigger school in the fall, or at least back in my classes with some good experiences, some new contacts, and maybe a couple of dollars in his pockets.

He'll be available from June-ish to the start of the fall '15 semester. I have confirmed with him that he is willing to travel out of state.
