Ask HN: How to fight Burnout
I find myself currently in a similar situation. My schedule is eractic, I work 9-5 mon-fri, but then at any given day of the week, I may also have to end up working until 9pm, this happens 2-3 times a week, or Ill have to work on a Saturday. My job is pretty high stress, as I ensure the availability, and reliability of 25 client networks, with only minimal assistance from general techs.
I'm getting burnt out, can't seem to get away for a vacation because I am either working friday evening or saturday every week (Although I have unlimited vacation package), and find myself unable to sleep because I'm constantly thinking about everything that needs to be done. I find myself longing for the simple helpdesk days where I punched in at 8 and punched out at 5, no evening worries, reliable schedule so i can plan hanging out with friends, and no real important projects lay on your shoulders. But I hated helpdesk, as I felt my brain was turning to mush, and that my talent and motivation was being wasted.
