Ask HN: What desktop app would you love to see?

Nowadays it's all about mobile or web apps, but what desktop application do you need?

I've become interested in making standalone "independent" applications. As interesting as web and mobile apps are most of them come with a maintenance burden of keeping it alive.

As a result I hesitate to pursue those ideas because I don't want to carry that burden with me.

So I'm on the lookout for neat little apps that people need that you can "make it once and forget about it".

These would be apps that provide some value without relying on "live" backends.

I hope that makes sense. Do you have any suggestions along those lines? Where can I find ideas and inspirations for this specific kind of software that I've described?
