The layover ad says: “This content requires Java Plug-in 12.4.1 Would you like to install now?”
The moral of this story is: Make sure your backups work. Practice restoring from backups before you need to. And of course, use a suitable version control system -- which would have prevented rm -rf * from impacting anything.
