Sorry, but her son was an idiot. The only thing that we need is stricter parenting laws. I knew by the age of 12 how to properly handle fireworks and I had them around every summer until my mid 20s.

The reason is because my parents taught me. As I got older, I also knew that if I was going to drink even 1 beer, I wouldn't be lighting any fireworks that night.

Her son was an imbecile, no denying that.

However, she is right that fireworks are indeed explosives, it wouldn't hurt to restrict sales to 21+ (it may already be the case in most states) or even people with a license for the most powerful of them.

Her son was also 22 according to the article.
Agreed. I'm not necessarily talking about this guy, but it wouldn't shock me to see a regulation to prevent underages from buying fireworks.
I would like to see the sale of individual fireworks banned, but not on individual safety grounds. I live in the West and every fireworks-enable holiday has us fearful that some reveler will ignite the forest tinderbox made worse by years of (global warming induced) drought.
