Assuming it's implemented properly, that is. The whole reason Jailbreaks exist is due to bugs in Apple's implementations.
Why would it have to be lossy? There are lots of modulation methods for digital data over an analog carrier.
FWIW Epic's cut is 12%, not 30%.
