Proximity to nature? Sacramento is near the Tahoe area as well as the rest of the Sierra Nevada range. Proximity to nature is one area where Sacramento resoundingly beats the Bay area. However I agree with the rest of…
> I have a belief that human ingenuity will be able to generate truly clean power. There's no such thing as truly clean power. Even renewables have huge environmental consequences. Hydro floods huge areas of land[1].…
Uranium mining seems hell of a lot better than Copper/Nickel mining[1]. Not only is the scale of copper and nickel needed for wind and solar vastly greater than the amount of Uranium needed, but Copper/nickel mines have…
> So what is cheaper? Manufacturing, setting up, operating, and securing 1000 5 MW plants or one 5 GW plant? It seems like the 5 GW one might be cheaper. It's not 1000 5MW plants vs 1 5GW plant, each SMR plant would…
> Hell their API’s are providing a longer forecast than the actual website. That’s silly. forecast.weather.gov doesn't show longer than 7 day forecasts because forecasts beyond 7 days are not very accurate[1]. So why…
Why are people downvoting my comment above? It's true you can download the raw NOAA data, just go here if you don't believe me: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/data-access/model-data/model-datas... And if your not able to use…
Did any non island democracy do well? Also just to note I'm including South Korea as an "island" as its effectively one being a peninsula and its only land border being with North Korea. Edit: Also, one of the main…
Ha, I just go done listening to an awesome podcast that talks about this particular story[1]. If you like history and humor its a great podcast, check it out if you get the chance. [1]:…
I live in Salt Lake city for the winter and work remotely so I can snowboard, but I was doing this prior to the pandemic. I also have a friend who lives in Austin, Texas normally, whos planning on moving to Colorado for…
You said above you were using OpenBSD not FreeBSD, they are completely different operating systems. Also getting the battery to last long on FreeBSD was a super simple config change, that took less than a minute to do.
I hear ya, but as a counterpoint to my above post I've yet to have a issue with Linux in a server context, although I tend to use FreeBSD on servers where ever possible. The only time I've had issues with either FreeBSD…
I've never heard of MonadBSD, but installing a previous version of a package is straight forward on FreeBSD. Just specify the version when you use pkg or use portdowngrade.
Jails are containers and provide more isolation then Linux containers.
What? I visit forms dedicated to one thing all the time, like g35 driver, Focus RS forms, or forms dedicated to spaceflight, or programming, or stock or option trading. Single topic sites are very much plentiful.
Your comparing the price of a used car vs a new car? Of course the used car will be cheaper. A Golf R brand new is more expensive then a new Focus RS. Also I'm a Minnesotan I need a real AWD system not the Haldex system…
> There is no electrical generation source that is worse than oil, for any electric car. Only 1% of energy makes it to the wheels when burning petroleum to propel a vehicle forward. What? You say "there is no electrical…
I love that you are able to support FreeBSD but Travis CI couldn't even be bothered. Is there support for Windows as well?
My favorite thing about Rocket Lab is the rocket engine they use[1]. By replacing the turbopump with a electric motor they were able to remove one of the single most complicated and expensive parts of a rocket engine.…
Great lakes? That's where all the good apples come from in the midwest, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan.
So this article is about east coast orchards complaining that a plant that was bred to grow in Minnesota doesn't grow as well on the east coast? Well duh. As Karina Gallardo, an agricultural economist at Washington…
Why do you assume that? I spent almost a month camping this year and I'm planning a 2 week snowboarding trip in the Rockies. As well as a climbing slash canoeing trip in the boundary waters area in the spring.

I could never figure out why car manurfactures do this. I just disabled the artificial engine sound on my 2017 focus rs and it's so much better. Also music sounds better and louder when accelerating because the sound…
How long was syzkaller ran and on what kind of hardware to find the 9 bugs?
They are getting better, even if they didn't set a very high bar to begin with. I believe they let the FreeBSD folks know about the last round of Intel bugs as opposed to trying to keep them in the dark like the first…
