Which means (in most cases) "I did not do a conscious choice based on reviews and comparisons and just followed the hype.". A bit sad.
Yep, he just won a lottery, good for him!
Seems nice, but doesn't support mainstream languages e.g. C#, Java.
The choice is platform-dependent.
Looks, good but uses TIOBE and is missing C# in second table (high-level, multi-paradigm, cross-platform, used in gamedev, webdev, enterprise, used by Stack Overflow, Stack Exchange, Unity3d, Mono etc.).
There is no IT workforce shortage in UK. Last time I checked average salaries were around 35-45 band. This is a strong indicator that demand is satisfied. At least for now.
Probably the same reason Microsoft is also promoting C++ and JavaScript (both are utterly ugly when compared to C#/F#) for Windows 8 - to expand developer base.
That's funny and sad in the same time! If you want to try a new language for a game just do: 1) F# + NuGet + Visual Studio + ReSharper or 2) Scala + Maven + IntelliJ IDEA
A KickStarter campaign for another season or two would've been even better!
And what is in your opinion better then WPF?
It is not about maturity - I am pretty sure first version of C# was performing better then Java back then, because C# team could learn from Java mistakes.
Random decision by a random person.
Well, you better know the code you have written...
So can you add some dynamic code into asm.js and expect same performance? Asm.js is an assembly that looks like JavaScript for compatibility and readability.
Err... Have you ever heard of C#/WPF/WinForms?
Which one did you get?
It is basically as if Flash Player became a browser. Exactly, an open source standardized VM would be ideal, then you would have a choice of languages as well.
The only amazing stuff is the distribution mechanism really. Other stuff is just plain old OpenGL but in your browser this time. It is not like it has some crazy support for raytraced voxels or something.
I wouldn't write a large-scale game/engine in byte code. It is effectively a C++ demo.
So it basically means that C++ got another reasonable compilation target. Not much to do with applying JavaScript to large-scale games. Also it is not HTML 5, it is HTML FF23.
...and they do not want to be better.
...also sometimes people start using the building while you are still making it. Also each builder has his own style. And there is no final blueprint.
"As Google hires all of the world’s good software engineers" - probably an exaggeration, but definitely not true. At least in UK salaries there are lagging, only good for experience and to have it on your CV. Any…
Loyalty already has a definition: stock options. I am loyal to the spirit of the company, and that spirit is always about making money. Just give people a slice of cake, goddamit!
Exactly. Right tool for a right task. No hype.
