If you deposit checks, make sure SVB doesn't make it too much of a hassle. I don't know why but a prior employer banks at SVB and they have a real hard time getting my COBRA checks deposited. Sometimes, I'll have 4-5…
If my 61 year old dad asked me how to get into programming, I'd recommend they go to a company that was involved in the Software Craftsmanship model that had a long apprenticeship period. I'd recommend this because I've…
I think Ubuntu server is a fine choice for your needs. I tend to use it on small VPSes as it's easy to setup and get running, relatively up to date and in wide usage.
But how do you translate that into (short term) OKRs and work that engineers can build a career upon as an achievement (for promotion)? I think there is a cultural mismatch between how engineers grow and what they work…
So here is how it works: The program runs on each computer. You plug your USB devices (presumably, a keyboard and a mouse) into a USB switch and then plug that into each computer. Then you plug each computer into each…
I experienced dilution as a former employee of a startup. Teespring did a 13:1 down round a year or so after I left (2015?). If you weren't an accredited investor that could afford to invest in the round, you had 1/13…
It does depend on what you mean by CPUs but the Ryzen G 5000 series are able to play video games at 720p (sometimes 1080p) with the graphics integrated on the CPU.
I am in agreement however I suspect many developers have never seen the usage of "git bisect" to track down a bug and fix it. Once you see the power of that, I think one can come to appreciate more the granular git…
Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Maybe we (myself and the other contractors involved) have been unlucky but we haven't been able to get anything done the lawyer route. I'm happy to try again but I've realized which…

Same exact thing happened to me (Namecheap, PositiveSSL, renewed roughly a month ago). I went the reissue route on Namecheap and that fixed it (and I ended up with a certificate chain that is one certificate shorter).
Joplin is a local thing you can run for this. Basically, saving a snapshot of a page. Has browser extensions. https://joplinapp.org/ I like the ability to use tags too -- I've got various product/tech ideas and it's…
Not only that but if you had an application in progress, they now have this text when you return to try to complete it (they shut it down shortly after sending out the email to complete applications): Last Updated:…
I've been contracting lately and I'm on two active contracts. One of the two is winding down. I've been billing at $155/hour via an agency (to be clear, their fee added on top of that $155). They offered me $90,000…
Any ideas on how this will be implemented? I use voip.ms and I can put in my cell phone number as my caller ID so I don't need to pay for a DID (basically, rent a phone number) and calls come back to my cell. I've…
The "Try!" demo fails with large JSON submissions with an exception in jQuery: Uncaught RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded I'm curious to see the savings difference and hoped to with "Try!" but it'll have to…

Is contracting on your resume really so bad? I recently made the jump from FTE to contracting because I've always wanted to and it's great. The compensation is higher and I can work the way I want to (put in a ton of…
I have on all my personal projects but I wouldn't bother with an existing project unless I had a specific need that PostgreSQL met (and MySQL did not). I'm actually all in on PostgreSQL at this point -- I'm not…
I agree with this now. I just went through some interviews and I should have practiced more leetcode, should have practiced whiteboard pseudo code and should have reviewed my big-o. With 10 years in, the skills needed…
That sounds more like the car insurance schemes to give a discount by sharing your data. Are you sure she didn't opt into that? Just curious as first I've heard of such a thing outside of auto insurance.
I just ran into this with a seldom used MacBook Pro 2016/2017. I couldn't reset the password via iCloud and eventually I realized the system clock was wrong (on the order of years). I had to boot into the OS X recovery…

I've found tech meetups scratch that itch a little bit but I'm 2 years into remote (with a wife and 2 kids) so maybe more is coming... Just curious if you tried that and if it worked or not for you?
