I went for a Master's in Education and became a teacher. Teaching computer science and math so still STEM adjacent. I'm still teaching a decade later and I've moved abroad to teach at international schools, currently in…
In Thailand at least, this is due to the high number of motorcycles/scooters. They're far more likely to die in a collision (about 80% of the fatalities are from motorcycles)
Nice, I knew this site only because I used it to play their Thai wordle: https://buddhistuniversity.net/wordle-thai/
When asked in court what was meant by the term "woke," Ron DeSantis' general counsel said "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them." Other than using the modifier…
I've used Credit Unions my whole adult life and agree with you. Though I am now in a position that they don't work as well for me: living abroad. I've run into lots of small issues over the last few years so I caved and…
I switched to teaching at the secondary level and after a couple years teaching in the States, got into international teaching and it has been great. There's good and bad about specific jobs but my overall experience…
Normal is different for different people. It feels much more natural for me to breathe through my mouth. But I suppose the fact that "mouth-breather" is an insult meant to attack one's intelligence is a sign I'm in the…
Recently got my first VR headset. Played around in Unity and did their create with VR course then made my own game - Whack-a-mole in VR. Thinking of participating in GitHub's Game Off by making another game in VR but so…
A welcome change. I identify with one of the mentioned personas: I'm a teacher who has taught game programming and designed and have debated sharing articles from them based on the name. Especially while I was teaching…
iirc in TI-BASIC, assignment goes the other way so you could have "B + 5 -> A" which also helps seeing that the expression would be evaluated before storing (the button to input -> on the calc is STO, short for store).
Location: Bangkok, Thailand (Currently in Delhi, will return to Bangkok after current role is complete, US citizen) Remote: Yes Willing to relocate: Presently, no. Open to it in the future. Technologies: Unity, Python,…
Neat, thanks for sharing. I'm currently in Chanakyapuri near Chandragupta Marg. I now understand the significance of those names a bit more.
I've been learning Blender. Started with Blender Guru's doughnut tutorial then branched out from there. Made a simple virtual pet game where I made all the art myself. I ended up also downloading LMMS to make my own…
I really enjoyed using Explain Everything on the iPad when I was making videos for my math classes. You can have prepared slides, with what you've drawn out pre-recorded but still edit in realtime. Show or hide features…
As I understood their comment, they do use bash but not for any ideological reason but rather to get things done.
Making good instructional videos is tough. Speaking loud enough, clear enough and slow enough to be understandable to as many people as possible with different levels of language proficiency can make it seem weird for…
Correct. I've been using this with my high school Game Programming course this semester. It made the transition to distance learning pretty straightforward for that class. I think the title of the post should include…
I recently read Code by Charles Petzold and it quickly become one of my favorite books, this seems like a great follow-up
Yes, I am an IB Computer Science teacher and we still teach tape drives as a form of storage so I was excited to share this story with my students based on the title. Then I went to the website. No way I'm sending a…
I got excited for a moment because I thought this might solve one of my minor problems as a K-12 CS teacher. Every school I've taught at is 1-1 with chromebooks and to be able to code on them so far I've set up a…
As some of "mixed race" these conversations always get weird. Defining a person's race seems mostly exclusionary in my experience. By that I mean, when I'm around a group of people who identify as one of my races, they…
I am living in Thailand and the elevator close buttons definitely work here. If you don't press it the door can stay open for a very long time.
Same here. Did the degree previously require 12 courses instead of the current requirement of 10? I feel like when I first started looking into the program before I joined it was 36 credit hours, not 30.
Maybe I'm the wrong audience for this (I have degrees in CS and Education and have worked in both fields) but this seems very simple/rudimentary and for the most part, doesn't really seem useful. Feels more like an ad…
It's hard for me to be sympathetic at all toward police, it's a known bias of mine. I grew up very poor in bad neighborhoods and it felt very much like living in a police state. Once, as a kid (maybe 11 or 12 years old)…
