I'm a newish dad and full stack dev. I've found that what's been most effective for me, aside from spending (admittedly, far too much) time coding in the evenings before sleep, is making a concerted effort to share…
Isn't what you're describing essentially the ActiveRecord pattern? An object that has the internal capabilities to perform the various CRUD operations direct to a persistence store and only operates on itself? EDIT:…
I'm hoping this was written satirically...
I just don't know what the thing does. The video says nussing. NUSSING! Don't companies have to get to at least Enron-level before they start making vapid promo pieces like this?
People (in my experience, anyways) would prefer a product that is fast and gets the job done without fault or error over a product that looks really awesome but performs poorly and is buggy. In other words you can put…
It is awesome. I've tried getting through it in it's totality 6 times to no avail, but i still await try number 7... It is a great read.
I agree that you don't have to learn anything about mathematics to become a programmer - that's how I started. I will say that having learned relatively advanced math since my start has proven to open interesting new…
I hear ya... from what I can see it looks like it would be great for rapid prototyping, even big systems... however why anyone would go with a JS-backed framework for a serious application is beyond me - it's just not…
I'm sorry but those look like toys. I'm with buddy here, could you please give me an example that is more complex in nature?
Don't want to ruin the surprise for everyone else. 'Sides it's just data processing. It's not hard to figure it out - it's quite logical. Oh... my edit was I forgot the language. I did it in Ruby.
I finished the first one in 20 minutes and got bored with the second one. I'm happy I work for the company I do. If this is what they want people to do all day, geez.
Surprised no one has made any reference to Farenheit 451. Allow me to be the first. Thankfully websites are not flammable.
Speaking as a proud Canadian, you're absolutely right. It's aboot time we get those new fangled horseless carriages!
Go look at the SDK docs... they're not half bad. I got a system up and running with them (not knowing anything about AWS beforehand) in a day or two. Most of it is just knowing the lingo and getting some practice in.

If you've painted a painting, and you feel as though it no longer represents the work you set out to do, would you just keep painting over it? Would your work suffer from the same cargo cultism that affected it last…
All I have to say after looking at your site is: 1) thanks for msbetatesting hackernews, 2) did you even test your site for BS errors, you noobs, 3) not a bad idea, but srsly, what's wrong with github (that everyone and…
Agreed.
@NelsonMinar - I couldn't agree more. I'm currently learning OpenGL and having a hell of a time putting it all together. Thankfully I found a quick reference card for OpenGL 4.2, then I can see what's core then…
Agreed - location is a good indicator. I make good money for my area, but cost of living is highest in the country and salaries are higher in other areas.
Love the title. Though it made me think the video would be something different. "Ghost in the Shell"-style tech is the way of the future. Anyone else excited about the yet unreleased Sony HMD?
I tried a bit of this just a moment ago. Came up with the answer to a problem I've been thinking about for some time now. Additionally I thought of some great ideas for weekend projects. I'm suitably impressed to keep…
I second that. My main side-project-esque interests involve AI and Computer Vision. Knowing that cleared up a lot of confusion as to what was 'best to learn'.
I graduated with Math 11 in highschool and never pursued it again to any extent until I was out of programming the first time and about 3 years into my culinary career. I decided to pick up calculus and linear algebra…
