From the outside, it all struck me as if it were some gigantic engine left running in a garage, so powerful that its fumes could asphyxiate, even with the garage door left wide open, as it often was. Sometimes people were brought into the garage to be disposed of in broad daylight, and other times random pedestrians strolled in curiously and collapsed and died, only to have their disappearances covered up. There were people assigned to keep the engine conditioned and running, to keep the garage orderly, and routinely add a fresh coat of paint to the walls.
I believe more than one person among friends I have known, did in fact, accept such a job offer.
Now, I look at what transpires, and I suspect that events bubbling up on the internet would suggest that the engine in the garage has been revved up hot enough to suffocate the surrounding neighborhood. And that many other such garages have been built as new installations. And not just by one and the same group of people. It's this cargo cult mentali...
They failed to recruit me, because they couldn't convince me that I'd be involved in anything I'd actually want to have a hand in, or be responsible for.
