Not really. A big change on this release was 'fully rewritten', so I put that there to stop people asking if they would still need to buy it. Because yes, you do need to still buy DK1.
You still need to own the original game to play it. To keep the rights holder happy we check if you have a DK version installed or on CD. The big change is that the game does not use the functions from the original game…
