Is there a reason you chose to roll your own software instead of just using Anki? Custom algorithm you think is better than FSRS? UI preferences?
Probably for usage with [the now sold off] HP Records Manager.
I work in a heavily regulated industry, and 'yes' is the answer for us, even going as far as mobile-first IM platforms. There's a very small number of vendors who pull in lots of money making UI hooks for things like…
I stopped buying anything Samsung for essentially the same reason. I was overseas and my S7 switched off and wouldn't turn back on. I walked into the flagship store and was immediately turned away because I didn't…
I've been a happy MailInABox user for many years, but this looks great.
Essentially you hook up all your log sources to a User and Entity Behaviour Analytics (UEBA) platform, it comes up with a model of "normal" behaviour, and flags users for investigation when they start acting outside of…
Tangentially related, I had GPT-4 plan the sightseeing on my latest holiday. It both picked out the interesting places of note, and then I asked it to plan them in such a way that made sense walking-wise (so I wasn't…
Good to know, thank you!
Blood test results? I couldn't find anywhere to input the data manually. I track everything else there, like blood pressure, but serum iron, ferritin? Transferrin? Albumin? Etc. Nothing. Am I blind?
I'm stuck somewhere between Anki hell and Graded Readers (~Level 1). Do I just continue working my way up the Graded Readers list, or is there something more engaging for adults that's a good stepping stone from Anki to…
The scrolling behavior on this page is horrendous.
Interestingly, RTCPeerConnection and RTCDataChannel come up as "True", but the IP address fields come up as "n/a".
IKWYD is impressive. Not the results. I'm behind CGNAT and it's claiming my IP is static when it's dynamic so I know none of these files, but the fact that it was able to get my local IP at all when I'm behind both a…
Chess.com has a measurement for how accurate a player plays compared to top engine moves called Computer Aggregated Precision Score (or "CAPS"), and top humans do play incredibly accurately. Magnus has CAPS of 98.36 for…
Post the stuff you're able to talk about publicly, I'm interested!
I miss how every hobby had a forum running on phpBB, SimpleMachines, Invision, etc. HN is great, but it's very point in time. If I find an interesting topic posted over a day ago, it's never getting new replies. It's a…
Surprised nobody has mentioned donjon, well worth checking out if you haven't seen it before. https://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/world/
Does anyone know if this will support encryption at rest?
I tunnel everything through an overseas server for the same reason, but it's waived away in the blog as "not gaining anything" and "shifting the trust from one ISP to another" - Well, yes. That's the point.
Is there an alternative to ufile? I've tried three different browsers and none can get the download to work. It's possible I'm blocking some tracking domain at the router-level that's integral to the download…
That was an incredibly interesting watch, I had no idea this was a thing. Is there something special about where they're digging for it to be plagued with such a large amount of rats? It looks like it would take weeks…
This is brilliant, thanks for sharing!
If the EFF actually cared about freedom of speech they'd set up a registrar and hosting service.
Thanks for the alternative, Shodan blocks my [cloud] IP for some reason...
Chessbase actually does something similar, where you can rent other user's computers to run analysis on positions[1]. The users offering up their machines set the price though, as opposed to an auction. [1]…
