Jeff is always a raspberry foundation supporter. I do feel a bit more pushback is needed. The other companies he mentions like Apple and Nvidia have shown considerable improvement in recent months. The raspberry is only…
The Sony Z4 tablet with keyboard dock is great. I've fixed mine several times to keep it going. The dock is a hard plastic laptop-style affair that is perfect to use on a lap. The tablet itself is much thinner than…

The alternative would be a proper electron app. MS can do it. Look at VS Code. It's strange how they make some of the very best electron apps and also some of the worst (teams sucks on windows and Mac too and I don't…
They're not. They're basically giving up and pointing to the web app that has always existed.
In 2G GSM there was this limit, because GSM used very strictly managed timeslots for each call. If a phone was too far away, its signal would arrive out of bounds of the timeslot and this was the reason. The protocol…
Yes I do. With KDE. I'm very happy about it. I moved from macOS as I disagreed with most of Apple's choices in recent versions. Now I feel in control of my computer again. I'm not into laptops though and I heard the…
I have to disagree with this guy. Sure, the corruption can occur, but if the memory is not faulty, ZFS will detect data corruption in-situ during a scrub. It's just that ECC errors can introduce their own corruption…
They're just different. It's a different OS. I agree some things don't make sense but some things on Linux don't make sense either. It's just a long heritage of things that have organically grown. Consider 'dd' for…
That link has been posted here many times already. I use FreeBSD as a daily driver on my desktop. Very happy with it. My reasons to choose it were more that I feel like Linux has become a toy of big tech. If you look at…
Try to install a BitTorrent client on your iphone, or a game emulator, a sexually explicit game or even a browser with a different engine. All this has already happened since 2008 when the app store came out.

Thanks, I thought I knew all the major mesh VPN options (tinc, nebula, tailscale, zero tier, hamachi) and yet I never heard of yggdrasil. This is the kind of comment I love HN for!
Yeah I know Rhide! I didn't know it was still maintained, I thought it was deprecated in 2002. It used to peg my cpu to 100% though back in the day when I used it. Hope they fixed that. But I'd love something more…
He basically aims to reinstate the Soviet Union "glory" days so reinstating the iron curtain isn't a big stretch... I still hope this can be settled. If Ukraine gives up the areas that were basically constant civil war…
Yeah I remember we used to run it as a joke.. On our HP-UX systems with VUE at the time. The sysadmins hated it when we made our terminals look like what they viewed as an inferior system (which to be honest it was, at…
Android has always had a file manager and doesn't hide the filesystem from tools like adb. You still can't access the OS files and app private storage but when you download a file you can actually choose where to save…
Well... Apple did. The rest just followed them. And Android still has a visible file system.
I don't really believe in win-win anymore when it comes to mixing FOSS with Corporate. The need for monetisation always wins in the end for big corporations. Whether they openly admit it or not. For example: A lot of…
