I went to App Academy a few years back. I ended up taking a software development job at just about the salary they advertised, spent over a year there, and then moved on to one of Amazon/Facebook/Google/Microsoft.
Did you miss the part where the guy had been coding for less than 1 year? 250k might not be the pinnacle of software engineer compensation, but it's as good as it gets for his level of (in)experience.
