I think if there’s a positive to be taken from COVID-19 it’s that we have time now for reflection. I think many of us have neglected human connection in our lives and COVID is exposing just how lonely we are. I am sure…
Not raced cars but raced motorcycles and the very real difference is the vast sensory overload when you’re approaching corners, while in traffic, late braking trying to overtake, trying to stay in the power, being in…
He downloaded schematics and pcba designs, documents, etc, onto a thumb drive and transferred those contents outside of Google. Call it whatever you want. It’s called theft. * The files that Levandowski is alleged to…
Meh. What commercial product has the guy ever released? I’ve been involved in many and I can tell you that with each one of them I knew exactly what I would do differently the next time. I didn’t need an old design…
I race motorcycless and so have some experience with high horsepower small engines. My first thought is I wonder how high the compression is to get this HP with only 3 cylinders? With high compression, everything wears…
It would be good but not sure that radiologists are the dominant cost. Radiological equipment is heavily regulated because it can cause significant harm to people if the equipment malfunctions.
Sorry but the assumption is on on your part. I’m sorry you can’t see that.
I think the GP is suggesting that as soon as you are moderating speech, a powerful moderating authority can quickly lose trust by deleting discussions. Or it could be that the moderating authority already is untrusted…
So crazy that so many things came out of particle physics experiments: Ethernet, WWW, ... kind of crazy
Particulate pollution has a big impact on human health and children in particular.
I used to live about 4 blocks from CA-17 (a 6 lane freeway) and when we’d leave the windows open a layer of black soot would form on the window sill after a few hours. I always thought that this soot was a combination…
True but usually it’s difficult to actually achieve that speed on the bus. Isn’t the NIC a bottleneck? Usually they aren’t capable of wirespeed due to shallow buffers.
In California we have a declaration of emergency. This declaration makes price gouging illegal for essential needs.
I am not sure I would call him a brilliant engineer if he had to steal designs from Google.
Gaming is hard. It’s hard to disrupt when we have PlayStation, XBox, and Nintendo. Xbox was able to break in because they had Halo. Nintendo has tons of games people love. PlayStation has a great ecosystem. You need…
I don’t really understand comments like this. US has lots of problems but we do have the semblance of rule of law. We do have the notion of transparency and you do not get sent to a labor camp if you have political…
One thing that I wonder is whether we could ever identify an alien communication signal as an alien signal is likely to be much more advanced. In that scenario, the alien civilization is likely to be able to send their…
Not new. This existed a long time ago. It was called Nextel. Was hugely popular with contractors and in construction trades.
Really not that easy to release a PDK and get the industry familiar with it particularly for anything that is high speed analog.
Intel does not support a fabless semiconductor business model. Lots of other chips are necessary besides CPUs.
Unfortunately FMCW lidar is sweeping the lasers across the same band. You don’t need the exact frequency just a beat frequency that’s within your detection Bw. Also balanced detectors have something called common mode…
Unfortunately the gain falls as function of temperature so you also get a lot less light and you have to pump harder (more current). So while it’s possible to somewhat compensate somewhat with the mirrors the device…
If the device is reliable then you should quote a FIT number. A very good VCSEL based transceiver in an indoor environment has a FIT of about 100 at Tj~65C and a CI of 60%. If we assume your FIT rate is similar (it…
Imagine every car has a FMCW LIDAR. The chance of interference is very high. Additionally if those receivers are using SE PDs, then these sensors will also be “blinded” (TIAs and or PDs will saturate) when a nearby…
Used to be a Microcenter in Santa Clara. It was a good store and huge. But it closed a few years back. At the time it seemed like it suffered from the same problem as Fry’s. Sounds like maybe they regrouped and are…
