I'm guessing (but only have anecdotal info) that Amazon more broadly is taking the broom to many little things.
Surgical masks as noted in the article, not N-95 masks which require the specialized equipment and materials.

I'm guessing the actual reason why the guys in question are dressed in mixed uniforms is that someone in the department of justice hit the "send everyone" button, which included investigators typically not kitted out…
