Because in real life, real world applications software is large, long running and needs to be bulletproof. Clis are not powering the world's infrastructure via piped bash scripts. It really baffles me what people…
Crac / aot cache / ready now all can address this. Not even considering native aot. Multiple low latency trading systems across market markers, hedge funds and ibs prove this. But people just want to compare it to…
I really hate how completely clueless people on hn are about java. This is not, and has not been an issue for many many years in Java and even the most junior of developers know how to avoid it. But oh no, go and rust…
But hey the sensationalist comment you originally posted gets your lots of upvotes…
I suppose they should be using rust yeah?
Should just use javafx or swing. Take a leaf out of intellij which while it as it's own performance problems (although not from the fact of the ui framework) has a fantastic ui across Mac / windows / nix
This is hn, where unless something is written in rust or zig usually, people will hate on it. They would rather pump a cli tool than any software of sizable scale.
Java is a bad language for this compared to go? Is this legitimate advice on a serious programming blog. Pretty unbelievable honestly.
Wasteful? It's for entertainment on YouTube...what a nonsense take.
Not surviving more than 2 weeks in a QF role because of kdb, and then suggesting they should rewrite everything to LISP is one of the more HN level recidivous comments I think I have ever seen.

Anyone know if there's a good way to allow vial / qmk like customizations with a mac keyboard? I use things like auto shift on my custom splits, but would like to have some similar features on my mac keyboard.
Agreed. On a vial qmk build it was impossible. When remoting into work for citrix it also seemed to be considerably worse.
From the crappy bolt on things required to make it anywhere close to a decent IDE, it is essentially vim with tons of incompatible plugins that continually conflict one and other.
its not quick haha.... clueless.
I find all these posts slamming java and suggesting to use all the either much smaller jvm languages or something like python / go / rust utterly hilarious. If you want to get paid the big bucks in a high col city, you…
No he's saying that java gets the features implemented from the bytecode spec first. And you well know it, or maybe you have no idea and are just a kotlin fan boy...
It's as much work as protobuf. How about Chronicle Wire, can you add that?
Should still be added. Are are talking a lot about perfomance so this is where SBE shines. Worth comparing if you want to show of the numbers.
1) is garbage. Since grade 6 you can run on 22 ea with no issues. Use toolchains, as they say on their docs. 2) no shit. What business user is every in their mind prioritising upgrading their language version? It's not…
You really are the white knight barristas need in this 7 dollar latte age.
Forgot that our computers were so resource constrained these days...
Could you link to some of the examples in your repo where you enforce the zero allocation? I don't see much reuse of the buffers, eg float buffers and there is quite a lot of array based heap allocation. Just for my own…
