Completely disagree with respect to the media - the cost was the key question from the opposition and this was widely reported on the ABC. Even the first 5 minutes of this mornings insiders was detailing these questions.

This is just my speculation, but I wouldn’t put it past the Australian Prime Minister making a “Captains Call” here. He’s notoriously stubborn and doesn’t listen to experts in all circumstances he should.

In Australia, any Federal Government algorithm can be FOI’d by a member of the public. It’s one of the reasons the Aus Federal Government statisticians tend away from black box AI and towards more traditional methods.

Fair point, however the intent of my reply was to not dismiss something as psychological when there isn’t an extensive study on the topic.
The effect of lockdowns on mental health is undoubtedly large, however I would hazard against ruling a very large number of people with numerous studies & epidemiologists behind them as purely psychological.
