I'm into making software engineering suck less - specifically on the infrastructure/ops side. Twenty+ year history creating open source mostly web-based software solutions in varying languages, along with ops/infra implementations to ship them.
Some things that have me especially fired up lately: Containers Local open source ML Tech support for senior citizens Automation Overlanding

> Makes me wonder if there will be a "thirty years discolored" version as well, if you want to print a piece to replace something broken... or can you just leave it out in the sun for a couple weeks or something? Would…
If only middle management and project managers the world over had such a positive perspective!
Super interesting, thank you for your candid post - keep crushing in life as it sounds like you already are, good person! Hope you are staying healthy.
Is this series of replies some kind of negative reinforcement learning LLM training at work?
Great deep dive, I've been actively curious about some of the results you found that present themselves similarly in infra setups I run or have run previously. This kind of miffs also: > AWS doesn’t describe how failure…
^ Poetry! If only we had linters for all the yaml spaghetti out there in ops land.
I'm a huge fan of HN just for replies such as this that smash the OP's post/product with something better. It's like at least half the reason I stick around here. Thanks for the great read.
Had absolutely no idea Kagi was working on a browser, incredible. Thanks! I might not even have to rely on a VPN into my house with a DNS blackhole anymore...
Sorry for the dude that built their infra and was really tired and then woke up to this, what a bummer.
I converted along with most of the people in this thread. IMO no really hard problem is ever truly solved but as can be seen in other comments, this group of people really crushed the pain of me and *many* others, so…
This was wild to contemplate and I was about to raise my finger and say "Really?! 'G&A' at that scale?!" but at the same time even if those kinds of roles are over-hired - they have to be responding to need and within a…
Thank you, that was an awesome laugh this morning, that request was genius: > 2. Sub CAs Operated by 3rd Parties > Honest Achmed's uncles may invite some of their friends to issue certificates as well, in particular…
Who's going to kick off the holy war around self hosting?
Propel and Zero (the first options) both contain sucralose, aka Splenda - I'd prefer to just drink salt water personally, or take the hit on a tablespoon of sugar mixed in and walk it off.
> because KeepassXC + syncing is way too difficult for normal people I've been debating for ages if this is a hurdle that can be overcome by packaging or even hand-holding support. When I show "normal people" my…
I believe he built it almost entirely solo as well, a monumental effort that brought me personally hundreds of hours of joy in a single play through. This post (https://www.patreon.com/posts/im-factorio-now-47218319)…
more power to you finding something you love and providing so lovingly to the community, money be damned, it's all the other things that truly matter! my wife and I when visiting a new place specifically seek out the…
I can only pray this births a ddwrt equivalent for fiber ONTs. I’m caretaking for my parents who are on ATT fiber with their giant scary black box ONT, and am consistently paranoid of what it is attempting or is doing…
That's a highly compassionate reason to get into an industry, bravo. Is there a specific type of game you found healing, or especially one that you prefer to create for such a purpose? I personally strangely find a mix…
I for one don't own a blu-ray anymore and really don't want to - they feel to me like LaserDiscs or BetaMax at this point! :) Plus, to fathom a three-year-old-destroyer-of-property handling your blu-ray disc collection,…
Amazing write up and work in general putting this together - this is such an ideal form of the word "hack" in its incredibly low cost, durability, and usefulness. I was staggered when I saw your build cost list - I know…
Next level, especially with the git attribute calls, well played. I'm still blown away how powerful imagemagick is after using it for a decade or two, what an inspiring piece of open source software.
For all the times I've seen the quote reposted, I have never seen this context added - it should be perma-pinned as the first reply to OP! Thanks for the historical color.
> single dose of a proprietary, synthetic formulation of psilocybin What?! Psilocybin is being synthesized? I had never heard of "C360", the name for the psilocybin administered, and was curious because the doses seemed…
Spotify is a prime example of an amazing service (yet still no FLAC equivalent) offering with a highly developed customer base ruined by the love of money.
