This is true for every statement about people.
Did they ever work?
You can easily do this with a dumb mechanical clock switch. No kubernetes backend architecture and AWS pods required here!
Do they need internet connection to do that? I have the same behaviour with a dumb light that just has some circuits to control the LED. No smart devices needed to change Color/brightness dynamically.
That is a fair point but only applies if you are building a new home. I don’t think it’s feasible to retrofit an existing home in this fashion.
I have Hue lights actually. I kind of dislike them since they try to nudge me hard to create an account - dark pattern IMO - lights do not need security updates or accounts period. > Why goto the park and fly a kite…
Thanks for the elaborate reply. I agree that it stems from a difference in values, my guiding one’s are being „always works - is resilient“ and „no unnecessary waste/labour“. I know my time is extremely limited and…
IMHO it’s because in our imagination anything is possible, we can imagine the bad situation in more and more elaborate and complicated scenarios. And we can’t see beyond the bad situation. While once we are in the…
I never understood the need for smart lights for able-bodied people. You just stand up for a moment and flick the switch, what benefit do smart lights or even a remote for lights provide? Even if you disregard all the…

That is understandable! I am blessed that I have a number of excellent music venues in public transport distance and a very good ticketing agency about 30 min walking from my home. So I often go there and by them in…
What why ? Would people browse bigcocks.net unless it’s explicitly blocked? What about cox? Is „tube“ on a blocklist as well?
I recommend buying tickets directly at the venue instead of ticket resellers. In most cases they will presell tickets at the door and you can almost always buy some at the door on the night of the show - unless it some…
„You have to think hard“ is just „it depends“ worded differently. If you don’t have to think hard then it also doesn’t depend on the details/circumstances and the outcome will be fine regardless of constraints.
Game journalism was literal ads/dogshit. I used to buy them a lot for the free games included as kid but the reviews were laughably bad even at a time when there wasn’t much of this content online available. Now you…
So to summarise: „It depends“
IMHO it’s because audio is „easy“ to manipulate electronically. You can transform every audio signal into an electronic signal relatively easy - for graphics there is so much more complexity involved just in making them…
With these early stage startups it often means they haven’t really figured out how to price their product and will cut you a very generous deal if you push a bit
Would you mind elaborating a bit why you don’t think SAML-over-OAuth is a fits-all solution? To me it sounds like eating your cake (SAML) and having it too (not having to use SAML)
