That's the whole point of doing a "simple background check" to determine if an account is real, isn't it. At least I think it is more useful for Tinder users.
Given the fact that backup is a must for almost any system, it would be silly for GDPR to not "cover" backup files.
There is Certificate Transparency for that problem. It is on work though.
