'Build your own harness' only works if you can keep pace with the API changes underneath. Most teams can't, so they land back on a hosted abstraction.
Fellow PhD student here, always wished for easier ways to update lecture content. This "code to video" idea could be huge for reproducibility.
Good to see more competition in the open weights space. The more players the better.
