You could trivially (or rather, mechanically) emulate HW bounded stack with a heap-based stack collection (like std::stack).
Still pretty much true. Sub 150$ Xiaomi phones from 2016 are still going strong (Redmi 3). And there are plenty of sub 150$ offerings with something like Snapdragon 636/710 and 4GB of RAM which will be more than enough…
Well, for counts 16 bits is enough, unless you count something really small, like every individual byte in something. And for counts 32 bits should be enough, since it's 4 billion. someone somewhere 20 years ago.
