Its not obvious (to me) that they need to rest. They're small enough not to need it. The energy to fly those distances, however...
This was to be expected. Boeing is vital to national security not because of the aircraft it makes, but the supply chains it sustains. As long as the USD has any value, Boeing will be kept alive.
Isn't that what the big *nix vendors said about GNU/Linux - the software stack is too sophisticated to replace - in the early 2000s? To this day I prefer to work on my Fuel than any other machine. But it's still dead.
