Code isn't really literature. It's more like a contract. It needs to be intelligible and clear because it will be taken more literally us humans can generally imagine.
Evolving a single software component is doable if the motivation is strong enough. Evolving a software system not so much. You're gonna live with the principles you baked in 99 times out of 100.
