Not sure about this analogy, since linear algebra is largely orthogonal to single-variable calculus. Agreed on the musical part though.
Kudos to the author for getting the money back, but it seems affiliates have very little leverage. Since there's no independent verification of sales data, affiliates have to take the vendor's word for it when it comes…
