In most cases It’s not about the speed, it’s about data sharing for containers or distributed systems. Filesystem or in-memory doesn’t work. I agree that in most cases a normal database is enough though.
People care more about security won’t use iCloud at the first place. Providing a decentralized protocol probably doesn’t hurt the revenue, but increases the development cost.
They open sourced it and you can self hosted. I mean, does it even matter where they are from? Why it’s automatically suspicious when you know the authors are Chinese.
