Senior software engineer at ZipRecruiter. Currently Scala and Go dev, but have worked in Perl, Python, C#, Java, and a horde of old mainframe languages (IBM assembler still my nostalgic fav).
Sure, those are valuable, and useful -- but they shouldn't be necessary as part of dealing with your job.
GETMAIN, the malloc() equivalent in MVT-derived IBM OSes, does not always zero memory. IIRC, MVS didn't zero it at all, so you might get anything in there, thus the need for a call that guaranteed zeroed memory for it.…
