thank you for evcc - awesome pice of software that I'm using every day. I actually built some small prediction models around it figuring out if I should charge my car or feed in the electricity. Not sure if that is what…
Is there still coil whine when running Linux on the XPS?
The door stays open for n amount of time (normally around 1min but I changed it to 30sec). The drive has a laser sensor attached to it (it is required to have installed with automatic doors in Switzerland if you don't…
Do you by chance have a link to a good development kit for the esp32? I checked and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of different components one can get.
Thanks! Will do some research and then try to order the right one.

I don't use this specific drive due to the fact that another company gave me a better deal for some marketing. But if I had to choose again, I would buy a dormakaba ED 100 or ED 250 (depending on the weight of your…
Thanks for the tips! I will order a esp8266 and check it out.
No sadly not. I'd love to write about it but my English is just not good enough to write a compelling story. Writing it in German and then having it translated is always a bit of a hassle. But I may consider it. At the…
As you might have guessed, that came to my mind too. Due to the fact that I have worked with a company in the fire damper business, I was contacting them and we were brainstorming about it. The thing is: The market is…
You are exactly right. Before I "optimised" the image recognition the whole detection part was running on a Mac Mini. I also like to "separate concerns". The Pi that is handling the door opening runs Alpine with a…
I live in an apartment with quite strict fire-protection standards. Due to the fact that I have a cat that absolutly loves to go outside, I needed to find a solution for him to get outside without a catdoor trough my…
I think it depends if you are using Linux or Windows. With Linux there still is to this date a noticeable coil whine while watching videos and doing other graphic intensive stuff.
I currently have my office in a building that was built durinf the year 1265. Still to this date I find this fact fascinating whenever I get reminded about it.
I too protect my phone number like my SSN. When a lot of services started to offer 2FA via mobile nimber I bought a cheap SIM Card and used a raspberry pi I had laying around to build a SMS<->Telegram bot. I now use…
Interesting. Here in Switzerland this is also true. A lot of Pizzerias are operated and owned by Albanians. I always thought that this only „happened“ here.
I‘d even pay for a feature where I would get an email from MailChimp whenever my E-Mail-Address is added to their database.
I just recently switched from using PhantomJS to pupeteer for PDF generation in a production application. Works like a charm and has a very clean API.
A little OT: The price for food in Germany are to my knowledge one of the lowest in the world compared to the average income. This trend of food getting cheaper all the time has led to a real „industrialised“…
After some time of thinking and also talking to some Tesla owners, I decided to buy a Model S. Sadly I have to say that for me the range and charging is, in fact, an issue for me. The range is just a little too short to…
I don't know, to be honest. The first thing I did was to remove Windows and install Ubuntu. Sound worked fine. Due to the thunderbolt issues I now use a MacBook again so I can't comment on the current state of it.
What OS are you running? My "coil whine" was significantly quieter when running Windows. Running the preinstalled Ubuntu the whine was like 200% louder.
It baffles me that they are not able to fix the "coil whine" problem. The support thread I was active has like 20+ pages, and they are still claiming that the new revision of the motherboard fixed the problem. They even…
I was so tired of being forced to buy overpriced hardware from Apple that I'm not even happy with just because I work with OS X. I then bought a new Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition and was surprised that a) the scaling…
Ah so I am not the only one! My MacBook Pro was regularly crashing completely when I unplugged my dock while it was closed. I now always have to wake up my MacBook before I unplug the dock.
