It seemed shocking, and stunningly incompetent when our UK government allowed ARM to be controlled by a dodgy bunch of Japanese venture capitalists, it is no surprise that it ends badly.
There are tons of insects in my small garden in a UK town. We have spiders that run in packs, bees, a variety of flies, also other small animals, snails, slugs, at least one toad. Birds flit in and out to eat them; as…
My desktop PC; also fails to boot in the same way. Just to add: I really respect the work different people on the Haiku project put in for so many years; even the controversial package manager turned out to be really…
Long may our governments be hopelessly incompetent.
As someone who lives in the UK; I wish our country and our businesses would train and educate our own residents better. Also I wish our Government ever considered reciprocity for the people here; since the only places…
It looks like it has almost leap=frogged past the PC port as well. (A cheap shot but it does not yet boot on my PC and I wish it did.) I have bought dedicated hardware to run interesting systems before; but feel like I…
The Iroquois confederation, known to its members as the Haudenosaunee.
Model what happened to people who were unlucky enough to leave the workforce and retire in 1970. Then you will know why people hate inflation.
This has changed a lot over recent decades (in the UK.) My eldest son is nearly 30. When we were expecting him, his mother was suddenly `managed out` of her job in IT working on GCOS7 systems; no problems whatsoever…
I agree; what I am trying to say; is there is no excuse for God. People have spent centuries making excuses most of them much smarter people than me. In a 21st century context it seems apparent that Gods possible…
The hurricane events described are only natural in this Universe; there is no reason that another Universe would have harmful natural events; assuming it is created to be perfect by God.
Because the universe is deterministic; I was taught the highway code by my mother as a child. I agree that in a less competitive universe a being could still behave in a way that others find impolite; however you are…
This sort of discussion usually gets trapped in discussions about God allowing Evil in order to allow free will; but that is an evasion; especially since the universe is probably deterministic; and consciousness is…
I remember we felt guilty that we sometimes sat our small children on their bouncy chair and let them watch the repeating intro from Super Mario Brothers or Mickeys Castle of adventure on the Nintendo or Megadrive…
If that correlation existed no one would need to worry about middle eastern WMDs. In the UK we have a welfare state to meet some basic needs; entertainment, sport and consumerism to distract us from existential…
It is worth noting as well; that other countries in the world have socialised medicine alongside freedom of speech and a free democratic government.
I am afraid we are often expected to work crazy hours here as well. The contract (we have employment contracts) may say 37.5 hours but it also says "and any other necessary to complete your work"
Our houses usually being tiny and connected to two other ones helps on the heating bills; its a shared effort. Cooling is opening the window; turning on a fan and sweating your nads off. But only for a few weeks a year.…
There are really only two complete, commercially supported FORTH implementations out there; and they implement the same standard. So there are far fewer FORTHS out there than people think.
Messing around with FORTH rather than writing apps using it is also a mental trap, at least at the hobbyist level.
I don't like python either; it would still be good for the environment if running it generated less heat.
I agree: here are some good examples of fast interactive dynamic languages - Strongtalk from the 1990s - Pharo Smalltalk (Cog VM) Also worth looking at - Chez Scheme And - JavaScript in every popular modern browser. And…
Is it worth anyone pointing out that early termination of life is a sufficient punishment; and it does not need to be painful.
