Based on the earlier discussion, I have to wonder why C requires forward declarations if it's using a compiler that performs 4 passes and has dependency checking that even other languages defer (and compile) to. Is it…
Based on the literature I've skimmed or watched, I find the correlation between NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and T2D interesting. It seems that fat is distributed in different people to different sites…
I think the three strikes law he signed helped to offset the long-term effect of those job losses on the unemployment rate as well.
Sideshow (actual) geeks used this trick to keep chickens from wriggling when they bit their heads off. Heard so from my dad. Not sure where he heard it. Avid reader, but he was a journalist in the 1970s and early 1980s.…
I think that even the idea of climate change turns many people off. It's likely not a binary choice, but altruism and egoism play a role in people's opinions about big issues. Whether it's imagination or experience, the…
From the legal documents I skimmed, it looks like the state hospital association, state medical association, and american medical association were on the side of the defense. The SC chief justice and an associate…
The app itself is entertaining, but a lot of false alarms. My favorite so far was a county worker who tripped my camera with his...i want to say water collection tool...from off camera before hanging a doorknob sign…
My sense is that unless content creators get views for calling out the behavior of other content creators, they risk losing likes and advertising revenue. Then they become the political agenda guy, and no longer the…
Ideally, public naming and shaming should be enough. Unfortunately, unless you get views for calling out bad behavior, doing so can cost you likes. This might have some content creators hesitant to act. A corporation…
Trying to think through the alternative presented: If the application is the only way to access the data, it would appear consistent until it wasn't. Assuming two application processes, process one would not immediately…
Well, anecdotally, liaisons. Prior to a trip to the French part of Switzerland last year, I practiced my French pronunciations instead of learning word banks. I was able to hear much more than during my four semesters…
I was just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. My troubleshooting has definitely declined some in the past five years. I was break-fix, however, for a good part of it, and a patch that needs another patch is a no-no for…
That's roughly what they do at my company. Many people in the company have some form of Computer Science certificate/degree, so shouldn't be that hard to make them develop...but you hit the Peter Principle much faster…
Gerrymandering can be used to unseat an incumbent, but often it creates a safe district for one. The candidate can then loan out their warchest to members of their caucus running in closer elections. Ending the practice…
I think it depends on the developer's focus. The project I maintain was written by people who were network programming enthusiasts, so it has a number of different TCP-based transports, some of which are no longer…
I haven't bothered to leave reviews. The Dunning-Kruger effect would cause many to see it as the ramblings of a loser, anyway. Sucks that the average two year tenure looks like: Year one: "You aren't doing everything…
Feels more like Oracle than FAANG with some of these moves.
They don't need to influence all of us to affect all of us. U.S. taxes are funding Al-Nusra in Syria at Israel's (who hospitalizes them) and the Saudis' request in a larger war on Shiite rebels.
I don't remember where I read it, but there are supposed centers in America for which virtues are held in high esteem. Intelligence was Cambridge, MA, wealth was Manhattan, NYC, power was Washington D.C., and health was…
Working on legacy codebases better designed than I could have come up with hasn't been much of an improvement for me. There is a certain quality of "habitable" for a codebase that tends to get tossed when people create…
Try an exercise called face pulls. You'll need a cable machine with either a rope handle or a towel and google or, preferably, a trainer. Unless you're unconsciously hunching your shoulders or something weird, you'll…
This sitting style worked fine for me for a decade. It takes the pressure off your lower back. However, I'm now starting to get shooting pains where you least want them since all the weight is on the seat. Sit straight…
I'm thinking it's more of a software business life cycle. Microservices are somewhat easier to deploy, which makes it easy for developers to add capabilities to be used by UX developers. Once the eye candy and rough…
I tried looking into ways to improve my problem-solving a few years ago. I think problem-solving changes depending on whether or not you know the end goal. Problem solving without knowing the end result seems to involve…
